Three British tourists have been found dead near a popular waterfall in Vietnam

Three Britons have been found dead near a popular tourist site in Vietnam.

The identities of the three have not been confirmed, but state-run media said the two women, reportedly aged 19 and 25, entered the country at the start of the month.

The Tuoi Tre newspaper in Vietnam is reporting that the bodies were recovered by emergency workers close to the Datanla waterfalls near Da Lat in east Vietnam and that all three were wearing life jackets.

Sky News and The Guardian claim police are questioning one man on suspicion of conducting an unauthorised tour at the site of the waterfalls.

Vo Anh Tan, deputy director of the Lam Dong joint stock tourist company that manages the Datanla waterfalls region, said visitors usually start at the top of the waterfall, which is popular among western tourists.

The UK Foreign Office told Business Insider:

“We are providing support to the families of three British nationals following their deaths near Da Lat, Vietnam. Our sympathies are with their families and friends at this difficult time. We are in close contact with local authorities in Vietnam on their behalf.”

The Foreign Office has also said that it is in contact with local authorities.
