Cyprus leaders will hold another two meetings in March

The leaders of the island's two communities, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, have decided to hold another two meetings in March in the context of the ongoing UN-led reunification talks.

Cyprus was divided in 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN backed talks resumed in May last year aiming to reunify the island under a federal roof. The two leaders entered a more intensive phase of the negotiating process last November, in the context of which they meet more often but do not necessarily make public statements unless they have something important to announce.

Sources say that their last meeting on Friday lasted about 3.5 hours and focused on matters on which there are still divergence between the two sides.

Anastasiades and Akinci decided to meet again on March 11 and 28.
